Use following keyboard shortcuts when you work in the Layers palette in Photoshop Elements:
- To open or close the Layers palette, click F11.
- To select a layer (make it the current layer), click the Layer thumbnail in the Layers palette.
- To create a new layer above the current layer, press Ctrl+Shift+N or click the New Layer icon.
- To create a new layer below the current layer, press Ctrl and click the New Layer icon.
- To rename a layer, double-click the layer's name, then enter a new name in the highlighted box.
- To select the contents on the current layer, press Ctrl and click the layer thumbnail.
- To copy all the contents of the current layer to a new layer, press Ctrl+J.
- To copy only part of the current layer to a new layer, select the area you want to copy, then press Ctrl+J.
- To hide a layer, click the eye icon to the left of the layer thumbnail. The eye icon disappears. To show a hidden layer, click the blank box to the left of the layer thumbnail.
- To hide all layers except the active layer, click-and-hold Alt, then click the eye icon to the left of the active layer's thumbnail. To show all layers again, repeat.
- To group a layer with the previous layer, press Ctrl+G. This creates a clipping group. To ungroup layers, press Ctrl+Shift+G.
