Creating an HDR Image: Finishing in Photoshop Elements

Share |

Adobe® Photoshop® Elements 9

September 26, 2011

Before You Start This Lesson

This lesson is the third step in the process of creating an HDR image. To get started, see:

Step 1: Capture Multiple Exposures

Step 2: Combine Exposures and Tone Map with Photomatix Pro

Step 3: Apply Finishing Touches in Photoshop Elements

In Step 2, I combined three bracketed exposures and then used a process called tone mapping to edit the results in Photomatix Pro, HDR photography software from HDRsoft. The resulting image is shown below:

You will discover that the images produced in the HDR software may need more editing in an editing program to complete them.

The bridge image is not yet finished. I used Photoshop Elements 9 to add more contrast, sharpen details and clean up noise in the skies. I often use Topaz Adjust, Topaz Details 2, and Topaz DeNoise filters on HDR images as well. The final image is shown below:

The following video shows how the image was finished in Photoshop Elements 9.
